We are again indebted to Major Kagland, of Halifax county, for timely advice in connection with the present unfavorable plant situation. We commend the following to the planters as well as to our brethren of the press in the tobacco region : Canvas covering for tobacco plant beds is no longer an experiment,and its use is greatly extending every year as its utility becomes known. Used originally to protect the plants from depredation by the plant flea, it was found admirable and effectual for that purpose—better than all other remedies or appliances. Hesides protecting from the (leas, the canvas was found greatly to promote the growth of the plants by keeping the bed warm, moist, and secures from freezing.
