Y. who felt from a 'second story window while asleep on the 28th August has since died of the 'wounds received. The widow of Gen. Gaines ha* pt-ti-tioned Congress for a pension. Referred 10 Committee on Pensions. The house of W. A 4. A. C. Hunter, New York, has failed for 8500,000; said to have been occasioned by the failure of Suydam,Sage & Co., with whnmthey had exchanged acceptances and for whom endorsed freely. The Commissioner of Customs has instructed the Collector at Buffalo to prohibit the inspection and unloading of vessels from foreign ports at any place in that District except Buffalo; thus shutting the ports of Tonawanda, Black Rock, Barcelona and Dunkirk, against any commerce with Canada. Professor Webster. Gov. Briggs's Final Decision. - After reviewing the case at some length and with some care. Gov Briggs concludes as follows: — It is undisputed, that on the 23d day of November. 1849, John White Webster, a professor in Harvard University, and in the Medical College in Boston, did. at mid day, in his room, in that college, within a few feet of the place where he daily stood and delivered scientific lectures to a large class of young men. with unlawful violence take the life of Dr Geo. Parkman, a respectable citizen of Boston, who had come to that room at the repeated requests of the said prisoner ; and that after taking his life, he eviscerated, and. in a manner most shocking to humanity, mutilated the body of his victim, burning parts of it in a furnace, and depositing other parts of it in different place# in the building, where they were found by persons who were seeking after Dr Parkman that after killing him. he robbed his lifeless creditor, by taking from him ...
