RICE GROWING. Value of Deep Welle. What Some Planters are Doing. The Supply Absolutely Inexhaustible. I assure you in rice farming wa- ter is everything. Without the cer- tainty of all the water throughout the 90 days' season necessary to keep fields flooded three Inches deep one Is insane to begin planting. If you look for a good rice farm make sure you find ample water supply first then seek a tract of land on which to pump the water. I challenge contra- diction to either of the following statements: 1. Every farmer who has failed in rice raising in this coast country has bad a meager water supply or none at all. 2. Every farmer whose water sup- ply has been sure and ample has old rice planter when asked what was Biade money and is getting rich. One old rice planter when asked what was the first pre- requisite to successful rice growing said "plenty of water" and "what the second?" replied "more water." While the canals from Pine Island hayou the Neches river Turtle bayou Taylor's...

I (L v ir ikt ujit b j u - uwuu ill AH STRflKGE. Pipe Reported Jumping Up in Texas Oil Well at Sabine Past. A report from Sabine Pass this evening Is to the effect that the well of the Texas Oil company seven miles from there Is acting very strangely; the pipe jumping up six feet above the surface and shaking like a reed. Frequently small quan- tities of oil would come to the top. The Enterprise has been unable to confirm the above report but such freaks have become very common in the Jefferson county field and It is entirely within the bounds of reason. The well Is down 1400 feet with ab- out one hundred feet of sand in the bottom. Later Teports state that they commenced bailing this afternoon at 3 o'clock and expect some important developments If not a gusher. Prospects of McFaddin No. 5 rre rather discouraging. The well is now over 120? feet and have only a slight showing of oil. One who is In a po- sition to know stated to an Enter- prise reporter this afternoon that he would no...
