VOL. 32 NO. 37 Stages set for opening battle By BOB ALLEN An unprecedented attempt at military-civilian teamwork will be put to the test this Monday when approximately 10000 Ft. Hood military personnel join with area civilians to participate in "Operation Helping Hand" a full day of environmental ciean-up activities. Military units from the Second Armored Division First Cavalry Division and 13th Support Brigade have as a training mission been assigned to assist civilians in the clean-up of areas in Killeen Copperas Cove and Harker Heights respectively. "Operation Helping Hand" is an integral part of the activities slated by Ft. Hood as Environmental Emphasis Month November continues. Friday November 16 1973 Military policemen from the 1st Cav. Div.'s 545th MP Co. will work hand in hand with the Copperas Cove police department when "Operation Helping Hand" commences Monday Nov. 19. More than 5400 cavalrymen will be trasnported to Cop­ peras Cove along with the necessary equipment to do their part in the cleanup operation. Sixteen policemen plus ap- proximately thirty MPs will operate under the overall direction of Copperas Cove McDonald. According to Lt. Col. William T. Tinsley 1st Cav provost marshal the first responsibility of the combined police force will be providing escorts and direc­ ting the flow of traffic during the operation.
