At Edlnbururt Scotland, some ycurs since, the Jewels of the Crown were locked In a box, that box In another, and so on, until they were supposed to be burglar-proof. They were then locked up lu the vault of the castle, there to remain for one hundred years, the keys being placed In a mortar and tired Into the sea. I Utj ffiews. .NlfilOIN. .........APRIL aR, 187s. SPBCIAL LOCALS. .-••idontial Ousting Bill. « leading sensation at Washing- ton Cor the time, is the recent confes- sion of McLln, one ot the Florida Returning Board, exposing in detail 'ihe fraud by which the electoral vote of that State was given to Hayes. One of the immediate effects of this exposure is an incruased interest on the part of Senators and Represen- tatives in what is known as Mont- gomery Blair's bill, providing lor a commission to settle finally the ques- tion of title to the Presidency be- tween Mr. Hayes and Mr. Tildcn. The measure at first riceived so coldly will now command some thin# of the attention it deserves. It is true all fair minds were sufficient- ly .convinced before that Mr. Hayes was not legally elected President, but being in under something like forms of law there was an indispo- sition to uselessly agitate the matter. Now, however, that the fraud is laid bare in all its naked deformity by one of th...

The following is a fair speciti of the way the Republicans Have been stealing the people's money: '•The Committee on Expenditures in the Navy Department finds that the indebtedness incurred by ex- Secretary Robeson, in violation of law, is $7,083,503-25, of which $3,- 536,798.23 is credited to the Bureau ot Construction and Repairs, $3,- 163.915.42 to the Bureau of Steam Engineering, anu $473i47''3° to Bureau of Provisions arid Clothing. This indebtedness was incurred not- withstanding the fact that Irom 1S69 to 1S77, inclusive, there was appro- priated for the Navy Department alone $161,889,713, tor which there is nothing whatever in the navy be- yond a lot of rotton and worthless ships to show.
