A FIGHT AT OIL MILL A Race Riot Occurs at Sny- der Oil Mill on Thursday Morning, Jan. 21st. Thursday morning about 7 o'clock a racc riot took place at the oil mill, in which a Mexican was shot with a six shooter. Drs. Johnson and Warren were im- mediately summoned, and on ex- amination pronounced the wound while dangerous not necessarily fatal. The bal! entered the right side and passed clear through the body. The phy- sicians say that if no complica- tions set up the mexican will recover. There is various rumors as to the cause leading up to the trouble between the Mexican and white laborers, and as to the shooting itself. A reporter for the Western Light called at the sheriff's office yesterday at noon, and Mr. Boles reported what is alleged to the facts in the case as follows: "There had been some pre- vious hard feelings between the Mexican and white employes and it reached a climax Wednesday, when one of the Mexicans came to the sherifrs office and showed him an anonymous lette...

Gatesville, Texas, was treated to two sensations last week, each of which resulted in almost a wholesale killing. In his early boyhood the family came to east Texas. In 1861 he vol- unteered in the Confederate service, and served through the war. In 1866 he was married to Miss Drucilla Myers. Six sons and five daughters were born to this marriage, four sons and three daughters are living, all good men and women, and all living in this county. Bro. About 12.00 midnight Wednes- day night fire broke out in the building- occupied by Black & Austin, (the Star Restaurant) totally destroying the building and contents.
