Common sense best treatment for headaches By Sue Ann Biggs RN University Nurse One of the most common causes of headaches is strain on the muscular tis- sues or blood vessels in the head neck or both. Being tense or worried or studying in a stooped posture can cause strain resulting in a headache. Headaches are sometimes a symp- tom of an underlying disorder. However most headaches don't indicate that any- thing is seriously wrong with you. The best treatment is to try to relax. Stretch and massage your shoulder neck and scalp muscles. Another treatment is to take a hot bath andor a mild pain reliever like Tylenol or Iburprofcn (Advil). Sometimes a warm or a cool cloth over the aching area helps. Our thanks for your patience dur- ing the hectic first month of the aca- demic year. To those of you who ap- plied late - PLEASE REMEMBER: the best time to apply for financial aid for 1992-93 will be between January 2 and March 1 1992. Financial Aid Posting By now you have probably received your Sep- tember 30 statement from the Business Office ( or perhaps your parents have ). We made every effort to post your financial aid to your account before that statement went out However those who applied for financial aid or for loans after August 1 may find your aid late in arriving. If you were to receive an HSU scholarship or grant it should appear on your September stat...

While there may be differing opinions about the roles of "faith" and "works" most people agree that the two are good partners. As a student it is your job to know as much as possible about yourself and the potential careers available. Read books. Take vocational interest and personality tests. They tamed the Tribe three games to one(16-149-15 15-11 15-ll;amidst a rowdy crowd at the McMurr reser- vation. The Cowpokes watched an early first game lead of 14-9 dwindle to 14- 14 before finally holding on for a 16- 14 win. After dropping the second game again the Cowgirls held off a late rally by the Tribe in the third game for the 15-1 1 win. In the fourth game the tables were turned and HSU found themselves trailing the tribe 8-3. Defensive Linebacker Matt Anastasio set the tempo of the game with a sack in the endzone for a safety making the score 2-0 Cowboys at the end of the first quarter. Second quarter action heated up for the Cowboys as the offensive on- slaught led by Quarterback Tom Enloe worked its way into Kangaroo territory. With the ball on Austin College's eight yard line Enloe completed a pass to receiver John Jones for the touchdown. The Cowboys' next possession of the ball Enloe made his own venture across the goal line with a spectacular run around the right end for a 60 yard TD run putting the Cowboys up 14-0. I would like to quote "I want to always make sure that this is an institution that understands the students as customers and that we recognize their input as valuable and important." I never dreamed that you consider my input as important Dr. Hall. Since you do I will have plenty to offer. I would like to start out by saying how delighted I am to be considered a cus- tomer. I wasn't sure exactly what this would mean to the average college student so I decided to do some re- search. I thought I should consult some experts in the field of business so i went to Moody Center and found four freshmen that had experience in the business world. I read your quote to them and asked what they thought "be- ing a customer" might mean. The first student said " When I worked at McDonald's the customer was al...

Non-Traditional Student: Financial aid unfair by John Carrol What is the most unfair thing about college? In my opinion it has to be the way we are charged for our education. It just doesn't seem fair that smart people can go to school for less. One of the times I took algebra there was a guy in my class we called "James the Genius." If there was some fine point the teacher was unsure of he would ask "James." There was never a time that "James" didn't have the an- swer. "James" graduated last year and got a fine job paying big bucks based on his fine grades in math. With my grades I may never find employment yet I have paid over three times what "James" paid to pass Algebra. And then there was "Betty Brains." She was in my English class. She could spell any word correctly. It was a waste of time to struggle with a dictionary when "Betty" was around. If you could pronounce the word or sound it out phonically "Betty" could spell it. She even knew if there was more than one correct spe...

ipiSI m Cowboys lose against Tarleton; still leading in conference By Tim Webb The Hardin-Simmons Cowboys suffered a tremendous loss against Tarleton State University 35-0 with a second quarter blowout in Saturday's game at Shotwcll Stadium. The battle between the two teams looked hopeful for the Cowboys in the first quarter when Tarleton's first at- tempt to score failed when Darren Allman blocked Tarleton's 32 yard field goal attempt. On their second pos- session however Tarleton faked a 37 yard field goal attempt and scored on a 20 yard pass to Ortiz. The point after attempt was blocked however and the Cowboys finished the first quarter trailing by only six. Second quarter play however kept the score board lights busy for Tarleton State as they scored 22 unanswered points. Tarleton scored seven more in the third quarter and finished the game with 53 rushes for 263 yards and 181 yards passing for a total of... 444 yards in 84 plays. All is not hopeless for the Cowboys though. Satu...
