THE CLIMAX OF INVENTION. [Newspaper Article] — Singleton Argus — 14 August 1880

THE CLIMAX OP INVENTION. hom S^*' fYm I Tub Bridgeport News v9ry cleverly de scribes an invention, credited to a Bridge port Yankee, to prevent marketmen from palming off old eggs for fresh ones. Tho inventor proposes to arrange a rubber stamp in the neat of every hen, with a movable date. This stamp is arranged -with a pad that is satnrated in indelible ink. When the hen lays an egg, as in well known, she kioks slightly with her bind leg. An eleotrio disk ia arranged so that her foot touehos it, and tho stamp turns over on tho ink pad, and thnn revolves, stamping tho dato on tho egg. Tho hen thon goes off about her business, tho farmer's hired girl removes the egg, and replaces the stamp, whioh in then ready for another. On each evening, after the hens havo rotired to their downy roost, with tho roosters, tho date of tbo stamp is altered for tho next day, and the work goes ou. In this way thero can bo no oheat ing. You may go to tho grocery and ask for fresh eggs, and tho groceryma...
