ALLEGED ROBBERY OF CLOTH The case against John Byrne, Valen- tine Flood, and James Browning, charged with burglary, and stealing a quantity of tweed, valued at £40, from E. Ring and Co., Victorin-street, WVest Miellbiurne, .was heard at the District Court on Saturday. . The cloth is al legedl to have been stolen between 8 and 12 o'clock on the night of the 5th January. Sub-inspector Swale prosecuted. He was attacked by yellow fever on the Isthmus some monthiis ago, and has been at his home in Paris to recover his health. Ha is now at New York on his return to Pa namns, where lie will resume his labours. lo was interviewed in New York, and appears to have been very free in ex pressing his opinion as to the prospects of the can'al enterprise. M. Varills says Da. AN UNIIAPPY MARRIAGE. Mary Anne Hlewitt, a tidy looking little wo?nma, prosecuted her husband, an equally respectable-looking toan, at the Flitntcray Police-court on Thursday for mnintenanee. The case had . been partially heard on a previous court day, but adjourned to allow Hewitt the chance of providing his wife with n home in the internim, which it appears hin had failed to do. The parties had been married ten years, and there were two childi'on living, the eldest aged six. Mrs. Hewitt stated that recently lher husbandl had sold up the home while she was anway residing with her mother on board a hulk, Dr. ?L'OCrthy, owing to a recent illness, having ordered her to takelsea air. Her Ihusband lhad frequently been unkind to her, and when her baby died left without kissing it anld went to Blllnrat. In cross-examination the prosecutrix ad nitted that her cousin, a naval man had resided with them for two years. Whilst shto was on board the bulk he came there frequently and slept there....
