Death of Mr. John Simpson. On Sunda}- there passed away to that place from whence no traveller returns, one of the oldest residents of Caboolture, in the person of Mr. John Simpson, death taking place at the Brisbane Hosoital. Mr. Simpson had been ailing for some time from an internal cancer, and on Sunday an operation was performed, but this had not long been carried out when the last call came to him. Deceased was brought to Caboolture on the following day by train, and interred in the Caboolture Cemetery, the cortege being followed by many friends. . The Rev. C. C. Trueman officiated at the graveside. Mr. Simpson had been a resident of the district for over 35 years, the greatest part of which period he spent in Caboolture] though of latter months he rpsided at Woodford. ' If the i South African war had proved anything,' said Mr. Thom son, 'it has proved that under the conditions existing here, in case of attack, Australia wants, not so much higMy trained men, as men armed with the most perfect weapons, and skilled in the use of them.' Eglington, ;P.M., at the Lands borough Police Court on a charge of having obtained the sum of £2 from Henry Dyer by means ot a valueless cheaue.
