Thb ibtdEgence brought by the late English mails although of a more pacific character than that conveyed by those immediately preceding ia, nevertheless, rery interesting in so far as it t affects tbe future prosperity of the Australian colonies. The successfol submersion of tbe Atlantic Tele graphic cable is in every respect a great event. It eolves the problem that the electric wire can belaid over vast spaces of the ocean, and at great depths, without its pecol:ar propertie* being in the slightest degree affected. In fact, it appeared from tbe few trials that could be made in the then imperfect state of the arrangements at each end of tiie cable, that the electric current was «ren stronger than on a short inland line. Hence forward tbe telegraph connection of aS c- untries, no matter how vast the oceans which divide diem, can only be considered the work of time. The Atlantic Telegraph is certainly the most momentous w...
