HORBIBLE DEATH AT TOOTH'S] BREWERY. j AHinqdest was held at Shirley'sTratellers* Rest Hotel, Botany-road, Kedfem, on the 29th November, concerning the death of a brewer named William Thos. Mainwaring, who was fotand scalded to death in a vat of Imiliiia nla Al Tnntli'o (irntvarr Pnfi'iiiintln street. The vat contained upwards of fiOt'O gallons of ale, worth £!-00, and through the unfortunate occurrencc the workmen state that the beer has been run off, therefore causing a total loss to the brewers. Mary Louisa Mainwaring, of Wells-street, West Redfem,^ deposed that deceased was her father. He is aged 42 years, and a native of Kent, England. He wasa brewer, working at Tooth's brewery, in Parramata street. He had been in the colony nearly 20 years, during which period he bad been working at the brewery. Witness saw him yesterday at a quarter to 8 o'clock, when be had his breakfast, and left to go to his work. She next saw him . lifeless at 'a little before 4 o'c'ock yesterlay afternoon...

A glance at what England did daring the quarter of a century which followed gives a' more comprehensive idea of what, if the occasion were to- arise, she might do again. To commence with the nary, ' whereon, underthegood providence of God, the wealth safety and strength of the kingdom chiefly depend,' we find that in 1798 England possessed a fleet of 498 ships of war, of 433,226 tons burden, man* ned by 45,000 men, The naval estimates for that year amounted to £6,525,331.
