' BAND BALL The Kiama Municipal Silver Band held a very successful Ball on Fri-! day night last in the 'Antrim Theatre. The Mayor of Kiama (Aid. W. R. Holden) iii opening the Ball, spoke of. the fine performance of the Ki ama Band at the recent Contest, and congratulated the players on their fine achievements. He. wished the Band all the best when they play ovel? Station 2UE next Sunday afte'r noon. Several tunes were rendered by the Band' to which those present were able to dance. 'Nickels' Orchestra supplied the music for dancing with Mr., Bill Nickels as M.. ,The supper room was very attrac tively decorated with .flowers and blue streamers- representing the bands colours. A tasty supper was prepared and served by the ladies of the Commit tee. A cake' donated by Mrs. Guy was won by Mrs. , Sinclair, of Tory's Hotel. : Messrs. J. McAuliffe. and R. Quick Distribution . By air mail from Australian Red Cross in London comes welcome newvs of the first distribution of food to sufferers in the flooded areas of England. This rapid distribution of much needed foodstuffs was made possible, first, by the ready response of the people of Australia to the appeal launched on behalf of their kinsfolk in the Old Country, and secondly, by the timely action of Australian Red Cross in arranging with the Minis try of Food in England to loan sup plies on hand there and distribute at once, and guaranteeing early re placement. Thus, no time was lost and cold and lugry men, women and children received practical help just when they most needed it. Into each household parcel was placed a card bearing the message, 'Gift of Australian Red Cross through the British Red Cross Society.".
