In the "North Queensland Herald" of Saturday next there will be full ac- counts of the hospital annual balls (adults and children's) and of the dresses on the lawn at Cluden during the two race days. The principal drapery establishments in the town will be open until 10 o'clock to-night, and until 9 o'clock to-morrow night. Hr Hulbert announces that his premises will close at noon to-day, but reopen at 7 to-night; to-morrow he will conduct business up to 6 p.m. Richmond River cane-growers say that the outlook for the coming sugar harvest is decidedly "blue" (says the Tweed "Times"), and a great dearth of cutters is predicted. A Brisbane telegram under Thurs- day's date states that Mr J. B. Hall, Under-Secretary of Justice, has retur- ned from Melbourne after having at- tended the recent conference on bank- ruptcy law, held in Melbourne.
