TO MAKE MONEY THIN YOUR FRUIT. [Newspaper Article] — Renmark Pioneer — 5 October 1895

TO MAKE MONEY THIN YOUR FRUIT. With the onward trend of com mercial horticulture the man who pro duces fruit at a profit has learned from experience certain things that are as essential to supcess as is the land upon which his trees are planted. Inten sive culture means something more be sides pruning the trees, cultivating the soil, and harvesting the crop. It means the application of brain and brawn to every department of the buisness, and in no direction is this more essential than in keeping fruit and tree free from insect pests and diseases, and in thin ning out the fruit in order to enable the tree to perfect only a choice quality. The suppression and, as far as possi ble, the eradication of injurious insects and diseases are as much a necessity to the profitable production of saleable fruit as any other department of orchard work. YALGOO GOLDFIELDS. [Newspaper Article] — Renmark Pioneer — 5 October 1895

YALGOO GOLDFIELDS. (from a corbespondent.) These goldfields were opened up about three years ago when a squatter, named M'Morrisey, who is located on a run called Gullowa, about 40 miles S. W. of Yalgoo, took up a good an<l auriferous reef, which he calle" the Gullowa Queen and is now being worked by a company and good pay able gold being obtained. The principal mine here is the Emerald, which is held by a strong company and has turned ont large quantities of gold having a five-head battery at work night and day. This company has bought up several smaller leases in the immediate neighbour hood all of which show good gold. There are several other mines started within one mile of this place, all of which are very promising, and among these the Star of Hope and Lang's Claim hold a prominent place. The former had a first crushing in a two-head battery, which was then located here, and although no gold could be seen in the stone, yet it crushed six-and-a-quarter ounces to the ...

The Pioneer. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 1895,THE VILLAGE SETTLEMENTS BILL. [Newspaper Article] — Renmark Pioneer — 5 October 1895

CIk SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 1895, Parliament has the now under con villaoe sideration the Vil SETXLKMENTS lage Settlements bill. Bill, which will provide for a greater measure of control by the Commis sioner of Crown Lands over the co operative association of villagers es tablished under the Act 1893. The new Bill invests the Commissioner with powers in reference to the ex pulsion of villagers, the expenditure of advances, the retirement of trustees and other matters. The Government is also asking the House to consent to the increase of the limit of advances per head from £50 to JG100. From answers to questions and from papers laid upon the table of the Legislative Assembly it appears that the limit of £50 has in some cases already been exceeded, and the Opposition are mak ing the most; of this action on the part of the Minister for Lands, which was no doubt ultra vires. Now the question for us to consider is how the establishment and maintenance by Government subsidy of these village ...

LOCAL NEWS. The undersigned begs to tender his best thanks to his numerous custo mers and the public in general for the liberal support accorded him since his opening seven years ago. Many will remember the little box of a shop 16ft. by 18ft., to which space had to be added from time to time as the stock increased, until it has reached its pre sent dimensions, and full at that. He has managed to pay his way and forge ahead. A new -element has recently appeared in the township, the Cash Business, to enable buyers to obtain goods at the lowest price. The under signed agrees that goods can be sold with as jnuch ultimate profit at con siderably less price and with no risk for cash. From to-day he intends to annex the cash business, and on these terms will sell as cheaply as possible. If, however, customers prefer the old style, accounts will be continued as usual at very moderate charges, and the reputation of the Ral Ral Store, for supplying only the best goods of all description", wil...
