The legal profession was repre sented by the Attorney-General, Mr. Pring, Q.C., the Grown Solicitor, Mr. Dodd, and Mr. Ocock. His Honor appeared, for the first time we believe, in his new robes, which are of superior quality to any yet worn on the bench in Queens land. They were made, we understand, in Lon don, and are composed of crimson silk, with ermine border, sash, and gauntlets. * BURGLARY, - Thomas Johnson was charged for that, on the 22nd May last, at St. George, he did feloniously break into the premises of the Bank of New South Wales ; and, by a second count, he was charged with breaking into the premises of the bank. The Western Star. ROMA, SATURDAY, AUGUST 7, 1875. [Newspaper Article] — Western Star and Roma Advertiser — 7 August 1875

Mjesfmt j§kt\ ROMA, SATURDAY, AUGUST 7, 1875. The discussions in the Assembly, as well as the divisions, have presented some curious i points during the last few weeks—notably in , the cases of Mr. M'Dowall and of the Logan, election. There is no doubt that the sense, of the Assembly was that the removal of Ml?.' -M'Dowall was an arbitrary and unjust pro ceeding, ^and it was fairly enough expressed on the first division, but the majority shrank from giving practical effect to their vote; aij.d when Mr. Groom gave notice of motion which ■ijKOuld have had that restilt, the Government met it by taking the motion as one of waSinKp confidence.f This Mi-. Groom would not acr cept, and some of those who voted with hiiri on the previous occasion would, it was said,' be found on thp opposite side if. he pushed the matter to a division. It was better to be content with one victoiy than to risk its re versal by a defeat; so Mr. Groom wisely withdrew his motion—probably to the relief of Mr. M'D...

ST. GEORGE. [FROM A CORRESPONDENT.] [Newspaper Article] — Western Star and Roma Advertiser — 7 August 1875

ST. GEORGE. [from a cokuespohdjsnt. The complaint ■ of scarcity of supplies in; all the outlying districts at this time ofi year is general here, in ,common with other i places. The scarcity of flour is not so much felt yet, as there were good stocks in the hands of the storekeepers before the winter set in, arid: the people had ariopportunity of lay ing in good supplies. The report of a scarcity of flour on the Lower Balonne, which appeared in your columns some time ago, was not alto gether well founded, as the settlers-there have always an opportunity of geftingtheir supplies from Walget ai^l Breewamna, in New South Wales, and steamers from Adelaide can get up to the latter place when there is a fresh in the river. In consequence of the late wet weather, traffic has almost ceased between here and Dalby, and the business of the town is dull in conse quence. The country to the west, between here and Cuimamulla, is being rapidly taken tip' and 'im proved by inside capitalists. Mr. Da...
