BOMADERRY [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News, Nowra — 10 November 1937

BOMADERRY (From Our Own Correspondent). The special effort held by Boma derry Social Club in Cambewarra Hall was a great success. We understand the committee cleared over £10. We noticed the popular president (Mr. E. Read) on the door. We do not know what was the special attraction at his table, but there was always a laugh ing crowa mere oetween aances, ana as it often consisted of ladies as well as gents, we are sure it couldn't be the latest yarn that caused all the laughter. * * # ? TENNIS [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News, Nowra — 10 November 1937

TENNIS -o ? The Shoalhaven District Association annual tournament was continued on Saturday, when rain interfered with play on all courts. Three finals were played. The scores of this match, 6-2, ?i_9. inQel.her with the fact that the ?winner is still taking part In three other events, proves she is outstanding in the grade. Congratulations, Mrs. i Reid ! 1 in the final of the ladies' 'C' grade championship Mrs. E. Peel proved by consistency and stamina that both are necessary in such hard fought matches as this certainly was. The .scores, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, prove that very little separated the winner from her opponent. Mrs. R. Lumsden, who played good tennis throughout. These two players have done remarkably well in their first Association tourna ment, having won the ladies' doubles the previous week. Congratulations, Mrs. Peel! In the 'B' grade men...

PEOPLE SAY [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News, Nowra — 10 November 1937

PEOPLE SAV That there Is still a wide difference of opinion as to the wisdom of the Agricultural Society's committee in persisting in holding the next annual show. That the wet weather has held up the reconstruction work, at a stage when time was the essence of the con tract. That the committee cannot afford to take any risks in a matter that might seriously affect the future and the prestige of the Society. That not until February next will it be definitely known whether the 'ayes' or the 'noes' have it. That the Nowra Musical and Dra matic Society will stage their first dramatic presentation on Tuesday next, 16th November. That the performance is being awaited with a good deal of interest. Thai, more than ordinary interest is being taken in the forthcoming local government elections. Thai, if rumor is reliable there will be a bi£ batch of candidates lor seats in the Nowra Council. That contests are also likely in all Ridings of both Clyde and Cambe warra Shire. That if the works p...

No title [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News, Nowra — 10 November 1937

Present indications are that more than ordinary interest will attach to j the forthcoming municipal elections jn Nowra. While three of the retir ing aldermen have definitely stated that they will not again be candi dates, quite a big batch of aspirants, ii is currently reported, will take the iielrt. This is as it should be, for it is :i healthy sign to see these usually ii::]nkU\s.s positions so eagerly con- ' tested. We have heard from usually ?well-informed quarters that the re em tly- formed Ratepayers' Association will lake a prominent part in the civic little, and that a batch of candidates representing: that body will be nominated. From the same source we learn thai the main policy of the 're- form' party will be the cessation of borrowing, and a general clean-up In regard to administration. The policy «i the outi'oinf1, Council will speak for itself, and has been one that will for the most part meet with fairly general endorsement. Certainly some things have been done which ...

THE SHOWGROUND [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News, Nowra — 10 November 1937

THE SHOWGROUND At the Council meeting, on Monday night, a letter was received from the Showground Advisory Committee, set tang out the latest decision arrived at -with regard to the , improvements and the altered location of the buildings. A good deal of hot-air was expended In a mostly futile and sometimes far cical discussion, but finally the recom mendations were adopted. Ala. King started tne aeoate oy asking when had the arrangement ?with regard to the publican's booth been entered into? The Mayor: On the 16th October. Aid. King said the Agricultural So ciety had no intimation that the location of the publican's booth was to be left in abeyance. The whole thing was wrong from a show point of view, and under existing conditions it was impossible for him to book space for side-shows. Speaking as an alderman he contended that the Ag ricultural Society should have been given first consideration in the plac ing of the buildings, but 95 per cent, of the committee were dissatisfied wi...

CRICKET A. GRADE PYREE v. NOWRA [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News, Nowra — 10 November 1937

CRICKET A. GRADE PYREE v. NOWRA Nowra's skipper, C. Dent, won the toss from B. Caines, and decided to bat, opening with Woodhill and Kirk patrick, Woodhill taking strike to Ryan. Both players were very con fident, and runs came freely, the total amounting to 35' from 4 overs. Ryan and McKenzie, opening bowlers for Pyree, had no terrors for the bats men. After bowling two overs each they gave way to McAndrw and Mc Bride. McAndrew, who has a bad knee, was further handicapped by the scandalous bowling approaches— big holes and shifty sand. McAndrew and McBride were treated with scant re spect by both young batsmen, Kirk patrick forcing the pace with a par ticularly good drag shot to square leg. He collected a six from each bowler. Leaney was the fifth bowler tried, and incidentally was the most impressive. When the total was 104 Kirkpatrick failed to connect with his pRt shot off Leaney, and spooned it up to be caught by Bryce at point. This player is a great addition to Nowra's ranks,...
