Mr. Ball's Meeting. [Newspaper Article] — Tocumwal Guardian and Riverina Echo — 30 May 1913

fvlr. Ball's Meeting. Mr. R. T. Ball, M.I...A. for the Corowa electorate, which now : lakes in Tociiriiwal, addressed-a large gathering of electors in Hillsdn's Hall oil Tuesday even-/ ,tng,Vand. spoke for over two hours'on the Referenda propos als, strongly ' advising the elect ors to vote against their accept ance. Mr. J. D. Davies occu f jicci the chair. Mr. Ball's speech was f'tll of interest and he devoted the whole of his time to an explanation of the Ref r enda and the injury their accept ance would be calculated to do. In this respect it was very much clearer and more valuable to the electors than that delivered by Mr. Chanter on the previous evening. Mr. Ball descended to no personalities as Mr. Chanter had done, and indulged in none of the coarse abuses of anv one, as the Labor candidate had. • He en deavored to show, and without doubt did show, that the carry ing of the Referenda questions would not be calculated to make masters any better than they ; were at the present ...

POLITICAL POINTERS. [Newspaper Article] — Tocumwal Guardian and Riverina Echo — 30 May 1913

POLITICAL POINTERS. . (By "Elector.") Willis is making M'Gowen and his henchmen drain the cup of humiliation to the very dregs. When they fixed up their des picable contract with liim, their only thought was that they had saved their skins for the time be ing. They did not realise that they would be punished a hun dred fold for having availed themselves of the services of a political traitor. But chickens will cotne home to roost, and the M'Gowen Party arc finding now that their poultry yards are full to overflowing with these birds of ill omen. Willis flouts, mid jeers at his former allies, and tells them to mind their own business. And M'Gowen, Cann and the other ministers arc like . whipped curs with their tails between their legs. It is a pitiful spectacle and must fill the citizens of New South Wales with contempt for' the men they, in a fit of tempor ary insanity, set up to rule over - them. But the lesson has been a salutary one. The general election for the State draws nigh ...
