f [ Dairy and £ ive Stoc k ]^ • 4 $ . - *—— . - - . ¦ - • .:.- ¦ J j * 3 DELIVEBINO MILK A GREAT waste of time and energy is the usual way of delivering miBc to houses in towns and cities . It is common to see four or five milk wagons delivering milk to houses on the same street . The street may not need more than a hundred bottles of milk . One man and a horse could supply the necessary amount easily but for some unaccountable reason it takes several men , each with a rig , to do it . No satisfactory remedy has ever been found . A good many men have tried experiments along this line , but they have all failed to accomplish reforms and the old wasteful process goes on year after year . . _ . . . Separate good rich cream , then churn it at a lower temperature . Milk is used raw , while most all other food products are cooked in some way . The very fact that milk is a raw food should stimulate those engaged in its production to the greatest possible care . Never put warm cream and col...

Asquith . ) THERE are about half a million people of North America s hundred million , who Jcnow North and Central Alaska , and Yukon , for the pleasant places they are . One out of every two hundred people in North America has visited the land of the circle , and has basked through an Arctic summer , one long nightless beautiful summer day beginning about the tenth of June and lasting often well into September . Those who have tramped the northern hills during July or August knee deep in a vegetation as varied and interesting as that of the sub-tropics ; those who have felt the caresses of the sun and wind of the Circle , the sun that does not blister , and the wind that does not chill —in tact all those who have spent one unprejudiced summer in the Northland unite on . the opinion that the whole world has no fairer spot than the , land north of fifty-three during the extreme northern solstice—the land where...

POULTRY [Newspaper Article] — Farm Press — 1 May 1907

POULTRY P OULTRY men who have strong healthy chicks commence breeding for them the year before . If the breeding stock runs out all summer over the fields it gains sufficient vigor to produce good strong healthy chicks next spring . A flock of chickens may be produced quicker than any other livestock , but you cannot step out and buy yourself into the business with any reasonable expectation of having good stock .. Watch the wicks that they do not get too short and the lamps go out some night when yon are not suspecting it . Poultry netting with V-shaped meshes is dangerous . Young ducks and young chickens get their heads through , slip down to the bottom of the V and choke themselves to death . They havent sense enough to climb up to extricate themselves . It is a great saving of time and oil in the start if the water for the tank is first heated to the boiling point before being put into the incubator . Folly ten or sometimes twenty-four hours may thus be saved , since water beats...

OOOOOCOObOQCX ^^ I The Grange I [Newspaper Article] — Farm Press — 1 May 1907

OOOOOCOObOQCX ^^ I The Grange I SOCIAL LIFE ON THE FARM ( By M . Crispin . ) L AZY people are to be despised , but all work and little society robs farm life of its greatest charm . We do not believe in neglecting the work on the . farm and allowing its buildings and products to go to waste in order that we may visit with our neighbors , but there is too little social life on the average farm for the good of the farmer and his family , and we would like to suggest a remedy . The quickest and best way to learn is to travel and observe , to see how others live , what they do and how they do it . The farmer , as a rule , travels too little . He does not even journey over to his next door neighbor who lives only . a quarter . of . a mile away , because hes too busy and hasnt got the time . These two farmers wives are the very best of neighbors and friends , but they just have so much to do that they don t get time to see each other , only at church or sometimes at a funeral . Their mind...
