THE HAYTI HERALD VOL. 3. HAYTI, MISSOURI, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8,1910. NO. 6. SYMPATHY FOR OLD JOE. ' Pascola, Mo., Nov. .'JO He that is defenseless unil fallen finds few friends und little mercy In this world, is gen-1 erully true, but old Joe Springer, tried in Caruthersville hist week, churned with killing u man by the name of Jenkins, 1ms, at least, a few friends, I who believe in his innocence, and are. doing what they can to clear him of the charge. These friends are his re latives, Judge Nichols and Will Ni chols of Dunklin county, who have employed attorneys and are otherwise doing what they can to see that the old helpless, defenseless man gets a fair and impartial trial. While the jury was unable to agree, many who sat in the court room and heard all the evidence, believe that Springer acted in self-defense, and did no more than any other man un der the circumstances, and that, under the testimony and the instructions of the court, should have been aequited.
