A very remarkable paper, the con tents of which are of especical Interest to that largt portion of our readers in the manufacture of flour, was read at a lata meeting in Edinburgh of tbe linuon Association or science, by Air. Thomas Carr. It consisted of a de description of a new mill for grinding wheat, called a disintegrating flour mm ana claimed to possess such ex- traorainary aavaniagesas to entirely supersede the use of burrs. The wheat is reduced to 11 our by percussion instead of grinding, being projected through the air unsupported and with extreme velocity. In passing through the ma chine it la struck by a series or oars moving swiftly in opposite directions; and Mr. Carr asserts that by the ac tion of these bars tbe wheat Is so in stantaneously reduced to a proper con dition for bolting that no injurious heat is caused. The First Presbyterian Church of Elizabeth, New Jersey, was organized in 1601, and has not intermitted ser vice for two hundred and seven years. The first Seventh-day Baptist Church in America, at Newport, Rhode Island, celebrated its two hundredth anniver sary on the 23d of December. The American Missionary Society has received ffers of the sorvic-s of two hundred colored men for mission ary work among their kindred in Af r ea. The statistics of Methodism, in thf State of New York, show a member ship f 18,387, including the ministers, and church edifices, valued at S10,49,625.
