Swinging signs were wrenched to and fro, chimneys rocked in ilie, gale, awning* were Happed iuto rib Ions, pantaloons and shirts from clothes lines were hurled a way and went strad-, dling through the air like ghosts and witches, and amidst all, were blinding clouds of dust and sand. The streets were as dry as powder, and the wind swept tiiem as clean as a barn floor. The con sequence was that the air was laden with dust and sand, and costly apparel suffered immensely.
