TH E DEACO N IS ASTRA Giddy Glamour of Gay Be midji Too Much For Deacon Man. WIFE FINDS HIM DOING STUNTS WITH ANOTHER. Lavishes Silk Umbrella On Husband and Drives Him Home to Drink. A handsome and elaborately dressed young gentleman, the husband of a lady of the heroic brunette type, and altogether a hale fellow well met, who has been enjoying a several week's summer outing in Bemidji and in cidentally living up to the legends of the leafy month of June will have good cause to reuioin ber his visit to Bemidji. This morning his wife who arrived from a near-by city to join him in his pleasuring after several hours diligent search located him in his evening clothes in a down town wine room going the gait that makes no noise but is generally conceded to be suffi ciently swift even for this sec tion of the country. There was a scene too hot to print, a bat tered silk hat, and a general meek and lowly appearance on the part of the pastoral looking young man and the committee on credentia...

Most Daring Robbery Ever At tempted inThisSection Attended With Very Poor Success. Cracksmen effected an entrance to the Bemidji postoftice at an early hour this morning, blew open the safe, rilled the mailed pouches and made their escape after securing a number of regis tered letters, a small quantity of stamps and about sixty dollars in cash. The robbery was one of the most daring ever attempted in this section and was carried out successfully, although only a small sum of money rewarded the cracksmen for their work. It was evidently the work of skilled professionals and there is ab solutely no clue to the thieves. Shortly after two o'clock this morning the down town section of the city was startled by a loud report. It was plainly heard at theMarkham hotel and in all the business houses on Beltrami ave nue and Third street. Patrol men Helmerand Cline, and C. H. Miles and Win. Welch were the first on the scone. Mr. Helmer was standing on the corner talk ing with Mr. Miles when the...

EXCITED ALL ADA John Smith, Desperado Be lieved to Have Doubled His Tracks. MYSTERIOUS STRANGER ANS- WERS HIS DESCRIPTIONS. Was at Ada and Aroused Sus picion But Hide Good His Escape. At the village of Ada all is ex citement and the people up that way believe that John Smith, the desperado, who is wanted for robbery in this city and who shot and killed Sheriff Harris, at Eau Claire, Wis., last week was in Ada Tuesday night and slipped through the clutches of the law. One thing is now certain and that is that the reported sur rounding of Smith in a swamp near Merrillan. Wis., did. not de yelopo his capture and if he "was surrounded he succeeded in slipping through the cordon of state militia and making his escape. A sheriff posse went in to search the swamp while the militia surrounded it. Seven trained blood hounds were used in the search but it was yester day abandoned as futile and the Wisconsin authorities admit themselves baffled. Tuesday evening of this week a man answering Smi...
