THE LITTLE WINTER GRAVE. [Newspaper Article] — Wide West — 6 April 1856

THE LITTLE WINTER GRAVE. Our baby lies under the snow, sweet wife, Our baby lies under the snow. Out in Hie dark with the night. While the winds so loudly blow. As a dead saint thou art pale, sweet wife, And the cross is on thy breast; Oh, the snow no more can chill That little dove in its nest. Shall we shut the baby out, sweet wife, While the chilling winds do blow? Oh, Uie grave is now its bed, And its coverlit is snow ! Oh, our merry bird is snared, sweet wife That o rain* of music gave, And the snow falls on our hearts, And our hearts are each a grave. Oh, it was the lamp of oor life, sweet wife, Blown out in a night of gloom; A leaf from oar flower of love. Nipped in its fresh spring bloom; But the lamp will shine above, sweet wife, And the leaf again shall grow. Where there are no bitter weeds. And no dreary, dreary snow.

A PLEA FOR KISSING. The fountains mingle with the nver. The rivers with the ocean The winds of heaven mix forever With a sweet commotion, Nothing on the earth is single. All things by a law divine In one another's being mingle— Why not I with thine? gee the mountains kiss high heaven. And the waves clasp one another; No leaf or flower would be forgiven If it disdained to kiss its brother; And the sunlight clasps the earth. And the moonbeams kiss the sea ; But what are all these kissing worth, If thou kiss not me ?

The Fast of His Race. BY J. F. SMITH, ACTHoa or "tub sOLDira or fobtgsa," " mihsir cast," xtc. CHAPTER 111. Thou art come to set mine eye: The tackle of my heart is cracked and burned. And all the shrouds wherewith my lire should sail Are turned to one thread—one little hair. My heart has one poor string to stay it by. Which holds but till Ihy news be uttered. And then all thou seest is but a clod. Shakspbarr. King John, Act 5. The lawyer stood for a few moments at the foot of the bed, contemplating the scene before him with intense commisserution. The once manly form of the baronet was trusted almost to a skeleton, and his features already contracted by the approach of death; there was that nameless hue upon them—that indescribable expression which precedes the last mortal struggle, and remains after it is closed. "Poor Sir Harry," he said, turning to the butler, " rank, fortune, and the gift of genius, have not made him happy." " And yet he deserved to be so," observed the old man...
