That cotton is very n sefal none will deny,; but wiH it pay the farmers of Northwest Texas to raise it ! This is an old^ibject, and has been derided injjye neg stive time and time again in argument, and twice in this coun- ty by the cotton crops. What our farmers want to cul- tivate is crops that pay the best with the least outlay in money and labor. No crops require as much labor and money as cot- ton, the time required to make the crop often being twelve months. No crop is any more -liable to failure from drouth. Hoods, worms, grasshoppers, etc. On the other hand, wheat us- ually yields a full crop and it always commands a good price True, like everything else, it may at times fall short in quan- tity and qnality. This portion of tifie 8tate is better adapted to wheat, barley and oats Hun any Other crop; The great drawback to the raising of wheat here is the distance from market....
