soundout By David Webb questions with Jimmie fucker Jimmie Tucker is co-chair of the Dallas chapter of the National Leather Association and has been nominated for the Woman of the Year Award to be presented next month during Pantheon of Leather XVI in Chicago. How did you get involved with the National Leather Association? Alout eight or nine years ago, I heard about the organization from some friends, and it sound- ed like something I would be interested in. I started out by attending Beyond Vanilla, a educa- tional workshop on the BDSM lifestyle that NLA holds each year. Four or five years later, I ran for a member at-large position on the board. Then the female co-chair at the time resigned, and I thought I would run for the seat, just to try it out. Now I am in my third year as co-chair. You can only serve two two-year terms, so this is it for me. What ■?) you plan to do when your term is up? The leather community has several big events every year. South Plains Leatherfest happe...

dossier Will Liza put the 'OH in Ohio'? Parker Posey has never had an orgasm. OK, it's actually the character she plays in her new movie, "The OH in Ohio," who's never felt that particular physical pleasure. And Liza Minnelli — or possibly Danny DeVito — may be the person to help Posey find her groove again. Again, this is all plot speculation, but Minnelli — fresh from her hilarious career turn on "Arrested Development" — does, at least, co-star in the independent film along with Posey, DeVito, Paul Rudd and Mischa Barton. Co-written and directed by newcomer Billy Kent, the climax-hungry comedy has finished shooting and is in search of a dis- tributor. And if it's as smart and funny as last Ihomas Lennon year's "The 40 Year-Old Virgin" and "Wedding Crashers," maybe the mini-trend of R-rated, adult-themed sex farces can light a fire in the nation's depressed box-office libido. 'Reno 911' booked for big screen Is the big screen ready for a closet-case police lieutenant in short-short...

local news 2 gay Democrats to vie in primary or District 108 House seat Activist touts voting record, party loyalty Borden claims his opponent entered race to thwart him By Tammye Nash Staff Writer Long-time community activist Jack Borden, 65, said this week he decided to run for the District 108 seat in the Texas House of Representatives because he considers it his duty as a citizen and a Democrat to give voters an alternative to the incumbent, Representative Dan Branch, a Republican. Borden, a gay man, faces Tom Malin, also a gay man, in the Democratic Primary. Borden, a retired salesman, said he made the decision to run several months ago, but waited until right before the deadline to file because he was concentrating his efforts on getting Democrats to run for as many offices as possible. He said he believes Malin is running because "someone put him up to it, because they don't want me to run." Borden said he is "the only true Democrat" running for District 108 in the primary an...

local news BORDEN Continued from Page 6 Borden said that school finance reform is the top issues in the District 108 race this year, and that he believes the Legislature's failure to pass education finance reform last year makes Branch and other Republicans, vulnerable. "School finance is the number one issue, and with that comes the issue of taxation. I don't want to see the little people be the ones having to pay for it all," Borden said. He said that few of the corporations in Texas actually pay taxes in the state, and "that's where we go to finance the schools. Make the corpora- tions pay the taxes they should be paying." Another top priority for Borden is the crime rate in Texas, especially in Dallas, he said. "We need more funding from the state to do something about the crime rate, but instead they [state officials] are talking about wasting the tax- payers' money to build some big wall along the border to keep out illegal immigrants," Borden said. "I think we should be worki...

regionalnews Gay Austin Republican to run write-in campaign for Congress Mokrzy suspects Republican Party leaders reneged on promise to fund his campaign against Democrat incumbent because he is gay By David Webb Staff Writer A gay Austin resident claims Republican Party leaders reneged on a promise of financial sup- port, forcing him to run as a write-in candidate in the Republican primary election for the 25th con- gressional district of the U.S. House of Representatives. Edward Mokrzy, 24, a former Dallas resident, said he had planned to file for a place on the bal- lot in the primary before the National Republican Congressional Committee cancelled a pledge to provide his $3,125 filing fee. The group pulled its support after he announced he would run as openly gay and on a government reform plat- form, he said. "I think what happened was that the Texas Republican Party got scared because they saw me as actually having a chance of winning Austin and of winning the election," Mokrz...

regjonajnews CHILDRESS Continued from Page 1 Ferguson said. "I haven't heard a word about it from anyone." Ferguson said she is unsure what the conserva- tive residents of Childress, which has a popula- tion of 6,874 residents, will think about a gay cowboy love story bringing attention to them. Childress is an agricultural town, and the largest employer is a prison on the outskirts of the city. "That's a good question," Ferguson said. Christopher Blackburn, editor of the Childress Index, said he had heard about Childress being featured in the movie, but he doubts many other residents are aware of it. Blackburn said he doubts Childress residents would be offended about their city being used as a setting in movie about a gay cowboy love story, unless the town is placed in a negative light. When told the movie implies that a gay man was brutally murdered on a rural road in Childress County, Blackburn said, "Oh, wonderful. People will probably be a little more negative toward that." Fe...

regionalnews Popular Catholic priest comes out to Louisiana parish as gay Priest of 18 years explains he felt compelled to practice the same honesty he has always advised to his parishoners Associated Press THIBODAUX, Lousiana — Deciding he had to practice the honesty he preached, a popular priest has told his family, his bishop and the peo- ple in his parish that he is gay. The Rev. Jim Morrison said he had been work- ing since October on the letter which he sent early this month to 300 members of the congre- gation at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and 200 members of the student ministry at Mcholls State University. He mailed the letter and handed his bishop a copy on Jan. 2, about a month after the Vatican released a policy statement saying people with "deep-seated" homosexual tendencies should be kept out of the priesthood. The following Saturday, the pews at his south- ern Louisiana church were full, The Courier newspaper in nearby Houma reported Sunday. As pastor, Morrison...

ments on Feb. 15, Buckel said. One of the common complaints about New Jersey's domestic partnership law is that it does not force many employers to give gay and lesbian partners the same benefits as married couples, including access to health care or retirement ben- efits. But two bills passed Monday brought domes- tic partnerships a little closer to marriage. One bill amends the state's law so a domestic partner has the same funeral rights as a spouse in case their partner dies without leaving a will. It passed the state Senate 39-0 last week and was called a "major milestone" by Steven Goldstein, chairman of Garden State Equality. The other bill would allow municipalities and other public entitites at the local level to extend health benefits to domestic partners. The measure seeks to close a loophole in the domestic partner law enacted in 2004. The law was limited to extending health benefits to domestic partners who worked for public agen- cies covered by the state's health plan...

sided when Wildmon first went public with the matter. Some Ford dealers, including Jerry Reynolds, owner of Prestige Ford in Garland, have met with Wildmon, but it was unknown whether the deal- ers could be among the Ford representatives Wildmon was referring to as having made repre- sentations about an agreement. The dealers are known to be more nervous about the potential for an association boycott of the automaker. Dealers in the south and west, where the association's influence is greatest, could be particularly hard-hit at a time when Ford sales are declining. Calls to the American Family Association and to Reynolds were not returned. The letter asked that Ford reply in writing since, according to Wildmon, "We can no longer trust Ford to keep its verbal word." The letter carried a statement across the bot- tom that no additional comments would be made "at this time." Among the letter's more than 40 signers were Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council: Dr. James D...
