Page 8 - Section A - THE SACHSE NEWS - Thursday, June 9, 2005 County bans gunfire in rural neighborhoods By Autumn Barton Thinking of firing a gun on your property? Well, not in Collin County, at least not if you live on less than 10 acres in a platted subdi- vision. Last week Collin County Commissioners voted to take advan- tage of a state statute that allows counties to ban the firing of weapons on properties within their boundaries. The new law is an order prohibiting the discharge of firearms on lots of 10 acres or less in subdivisions in which all or part of the platted area is within an unin- corporated section of the county, according to reports from Collin County. Precinct 2 Deputy Constable Earl Newsom brought the proposed need for such an order to the attention of County Commissioner Jerry Hoagland. Newsom, a Wylie resident and city councilman, was contacted by lmogene Bush when a neighbor erected a rifle range on property near her home just outside of the Wylie city limit...

Page 2 - Section B - THE SACHSE NEWS - Thursday, June 9, 2005 Opinioi wmmmm $ m m m r Will Pilot Point join SMU in sports infamy? Rick Atkinson You tell me what's worth more: That foot- ball program you just had to have from G.A. Moore, Jr.'s 2002 record-setting 397th victory, or a big fat plugged nickel? Just wondering. My guess is the latter. It seems the Pilot Point coach is in danger of losing his lead over Gordon Wood as the winningest Texas high school football coach ever after the UIL recently stripped the Bearcats of all eight victories from last season. Took away all the basketball wins too for good mea- sure. Pilot Point now has had a player ruled ineligible in each of Moore's three years since he returned to his alma mater in 2002. Emails pub- lished by the Denton Record Chronicle, led to the resignation of Moore's successor. Most damaging in the email revelations was a refer- ence to Moore being a "full-time recruiter - no limits." Oops. Which brings us to the matter of ...
