Wind-' eyer, K.C., in his assertion the staudard rate of wage (^o) at the present tiuie was not sufficient for a man with a small family, ami that if industrial upheavels were to be avoided profit sharing and co-part nership must be adopted. There were many facials to account for the disparity in the comfort for the workers, 'said Mr. WIndycr. The arbitration system, for instance, insisted that for married men and single men there should be a flat rate of pay. It would cleat ly be dangerous if the employer were to be allowed to choose between a, cheap single man and a properly paid marriud man. I,OCAl( POSTMASTER COM MITTED FOR TRIAL, | Frederick William Hawker ap peared before Mr Longfield, P.M., yesterday, to answer the following charge:—"That being a public ac countant employed as a Postmaster In the department of the Postmaster General of the Commonwealth of Australia at Tocumwal did uiakc use of otherwise than is provided by t}ie CommotiwL'altli Audit Act 1901 pr regulations thereunder certain public moneys wlilcli came into his possession to wit the sum of ,£67/ 8/2." First-class Sergt. Byrne conducted the prosecution, and accused was defended by Mr J. B. Beard'. The case lasted until 8.3U p.m., too late for us lo publish the evi dence, which will appear next Issue. The P.M. held that a prima facie case had been made out, and ac cused was committed for trial at the Narandera Sessions on May 8tb, Bail was allowed, self in .£100, and one surety of .£100, or two of .£50.

The Post Office Case. The following evidence was taken by Mr Longfield, P.M., tn the case heard at the local court last week, wherein Frederick \V. Hawker, postmaster at Toetimwal, was cliargcd with being responsible for a shortage of JEG7/S/J In his cash dealings with the Postal Dept. Accused was defended by Mr Beard, and the prosocutiou was conducted by Sergt. Byrne. Evidence of the ariest of accused on March 15th was tendered by Sergt. Byrne. Accused when first spoken to in the street of the war rant taken out for hii 'arrest said " Theru is no necessity to do that, I would have made restitution for any shortage." At the police sta tion further said "I can't under stand it ; I must have been robbed. On 0110 occasion I left the key in the door, and the keys of my safe were lying in my drawer in the office.
