FOR THE IAN ON THE LAND (CONTINUED) -REARING THE MOTHERLESS FOAL ? It ''sdimeijimes happens that a foal is ( left an orphan at an eaily age, and the! owner is at loss to know how. to feed it. : : Ma-re-'s milk differs- from cow's milk in that mare's milk has less protein end less fat but more sugar, therefore water and sugar must be added to cow's milk to make it suitable for the fonJ. To 20 ounces of cow's milk, add 5 ounces rof boiled .water and one dessertspoonful . of sugar. The foal should 'be fed five times daily and the quantity gradually increased, until it is taking 7 to 8 quarts a day. Poultry Feeding Of Young Stock THE BEST PROCEDURE [Newspaper Article] — Albury Banner Wodonga Express and Riverina Stock Journal — 17 January 1941

[?] Feeding Of Young Stock THE BEST PROCEDURE .r Many poultry farmers appear to 1-e 'in doubt as to the number of feeds'rper day which young stock should receive when they come into production and some: continue to give three *jjj£^'eeds, while others omit the mid-^f^,^ feed !and still give the usual morning and evening meals. -Actually a compro mise between the two is most satis factory (writes the Poultry Expert of the Department of Agriculture in current notes). It will be found that as the pullets reach maturity and the hot weather ' commences, their appe tites will be less keen, and the mid day . feed should be reduced accord ingly; but.it is not advisable suddenly to. cut it out altogether. The best course is gradually to reduce the quantity of mash used and increase the amount of green feed givfen at mid day, so that later on the mid-day feed would consist mainly, of green feed with a little pollard and bran added. . Younger birds, which have %not reached maturity,, should re...

POULTRY-FARMING REMINDERS FOR JANUARY [Newspaper Article] — Albury Banner Wodonga Express and Riverina Stock Journal — 17 January 1941

POULTRY-FARMING REMINDERS FOR JANUARY The matter of stocktaking is im portant, as it enables a . summing, up to ibe made of the effective layers for the ensuing year. Those who have mot already made a count of the birds should lose no time in carrying out. the work, which can most effectively be done by closing in the birds over night and counting them as they are let out of the houses in tho morning. At this time of the year close at tention is necessary to prevent SrliP^vy infestation by red. mite. A timely painting of the perches with creosote or other wjood oil will often prevent the spread of this parasite.
