Dd Citation to the Mcretary of Mines. About 20 well - known prospectors, headed by Mr C. A. Littler, waited upon Mr Belstead at Anderson's Uolel on Wed nesday evening with the expressed inten tion of obtaining a speedy revision of the exisiiup minitiR regulations. Mr. 1. Smith, without any circumlocu tion, drew attention to section 12 et' the Mineral Lands Act. He stated that this section was in rt-ality tlie root and branch of the whole business, and required imme diate mnendinent. At present the appli cant \vus only supposed to put oue peg and notice in u conspicuous place, but lie was in favour of compelling tide appli cant to Muz-; a line either 20 chains from peer to \H-fi, or incase of a centre notice 10 chains ii-nth and south or east and west, as tho case might be. Police Court.       [Before His Worship Mr. Commissioner Fowell and Mr. Hogarth. J. P. John Connors charged Tomothy Slater with unlawfully absenting himself from his work. Mr D.C. Urquhart for com-   plainant, Mr Stuart for defendant. After   hearing evidence for and against, the bench found Slater guilty and fined him 10s and costs.     HOUSEBREAKING. E. H. James charged Patrick Long for unlawfully breaking and entering a dwell- ing, with intent to commit a felony. Mr A. O. Norman watched the case for James ; Mr W. Stuart appeared for the accused. After hearing the evidence for the prosecu- tion, which went to show that the accused on the day of resumption of the leasehold land pegged out a piece of land on which a house was erected, and belonging to one James, and then entered the house and occupied it.
