A ROMANCE IN THE LIFE OF THE LITTLE PENGUIN. By J. n. Kinphorn in an Interesting n--\v nature publication 'The Aus tralian Museum Magazine,' of whose seventh number we have received a copy from Mrs. Ford's newsagency. It is seldom that the Little Penguin (EudyDtuIa minor) comes as far north as Sydney to breed, though occasional specimens have been found nesting on C.ibhape Tree Island at the entrance to Port Stephens. This story is a bout a'palr which made their temporary homo at Collaroy Beach, a well-known seaside resort ahnut six miles north of Manly. A little over a year ago. Mr. and Mrs. Penguin swam northwards along tlie ro.-i-! of New South Wales, in search --f a »uita!-le locality in which to mate tln'ir tionn'. , Onf morning towards the -nil of .\utriist, 1921, they rounded ttio headland t»t the southern end of OiRiroy Reach and landed to Inspect l!n- silr. They did not look round for long, however,, as their attention was directed to a fine honse situated at the top of a s...

Maroochydore. VISITING LADY DROWNED. [Newspaper Article] — Nambour Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 2 February 1923

Maroochydore. VISITING LADY DROWNED. MaroochyriorB is growing so f*sl that it does not realise that many people now come here who are quite unaccu.ston-- to seaside life and would he better .^oked after and given a little advice as to what they should not do. One valuable piece of sdvlce published recently In the 'Chronicle', was not to bathe In the main river cbannel unless the bather wishes tn he eaten by a shark. Notices miuhl well he posted in positions likely to catch eyes of possible bathers. Olhpr notices might well warn people against boating or bathing too near the raoutn of the river, where the tide and th-- hottnm are both treacherous. Had such warnings existed, Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Morelle and her husb-ipil would not have, bathed where they did on SatunHy morning, and the former might still be alive and veil. These people unknowingly took the double risk, that of being caugM by a man-eater, and that of being carried off a shifting floor by a strong current, by bathing in ...
