1NRUENTIAL LAND OWNERS WANT TO SHIRK RESPONSIBILITY Attack On Government's Soldier Settlement Scheme A few influential land owners who wanted to shirk their responsibilities to ex-seryicemen were evi dently sponsoring the at tack being made on the Government's war service land settlement scheme, the Minister for Lands, Mr. Renshaw, said to-day. Mr. Reluhaw said the an onymous attack would not bluff him into letting these men evade their obligations to the returned soldiers of the State. 'I view with suspicion any at tack that is made anonymously and more so when it uses the 'widow's mite' as a weapon,' he said. ? 'The landowners claim to be long to an organisation that has never been heard of before and will probably never be heard of again. They should come out and let the public know them in their true colours, ' he added. MANPOWER AFFECTING TRANSPORT ! The drift in the manpower position in this State is very seriously interfering with the Department of Railways and Road Transport and Tramways. The Minister for Transport, Mr. W. F. Sheahan, M.L.A., emphasised this factor in the course of an address at a meet ing of the Yass A.L.P. He said that a recent inter view revealed there were over G1.000 employees in the Depart ment of Railways, and 13,693 in the Department of Road Transport and Tramways. In the railways alone last year 13,075 new employees, includ ing 2,438 New Australians, were taken on, but there was a loss of 12,958 in the same period, so that the nett gain was only 117.
