FORMATION OF TRUST ESTATES [Newspaper Article] — Northern Territory Times — 8 July 1927

FORMATION OF TRUST ESTATES It has become a widespread yrac tice throughout Australia ainoi'Tst persons who have ibeen liable to as sessment of income tax in the high er grades of income to subdivide their financial! interests among- them geljves and their wives and children by means of trust deeds with the re suit that although the same financial benefit accrues annually to the fam ily as a whole and is enjoyed by the family the total amount of .income tax payable on the total finanuial benefit is greatly reduced. The Queensland Income Tax Assess ment Act contains provisions express ly degigned to prevent avoidance of income tax by the methods mention ed. There is no similar provision in the Commonwealth Income Tax Ass essment Act and therefore it is not possible to secure payment of the higher amount of tax that would 'have/ been payable 'hut for the gub division of the income in the iranici stated.
