TO THE EDITOR OF THE GUARDIAN. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 22 April 1880

TO THE EDITOR OF THE GAURDIAN. Sir,—I noticed you published the decision. arrived at by the Minister of Public Works     when waited on by the deputation on Wed-       nesday last. I should have been much bet-   ter pleased if you had given a more detailed report of the arguments used for and against the severance of the shire, or making the boundary of ridings. It appears to me that   the ratepayers at large ought to be made   fully aware of,what took place after the de- putation withdrew and delegates were up-   pointed to meet and endeavor to arrive at a settlement satisfactory to the advancement         of all. Representatives in public meetings are diff- cult to get, and I am sorry to say they sel- dom end in an amicable manner.     Therefore as the best way of making as public as possi...

The Warragul Guardian. THURSDAY, APRIL 29, 1880. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 29 April 1880

THURSDAY, APRIL 29, iSSO. TIE tone adopted by the public meet ing held in Warragul on Saturday last nicets with our hearty 'approval. When writing upon the subject of our Shire grievances on the 11th December last, we threw out a sug gestion that an attempt should be made to obtain fair play for Warragul by endeavoring to establish north and south ridings, meaning thereby that we should go in for two north anld two 'south ridings. We were then ;com paratively ignorant of the district, and consequently made no attempt to de fine boundaries, leaving that matter to those who were better acquainted with the shire. But while we com mend the action taken oin Saturday, we must certainly say that we think that a settlement of this vexed ques tion would have been arrived at before this if our advice had been followed immle:liately, instead of so late in the day. If our delegates had been able to say to Mr. Bent-We have submit ted a proposal to the other side which wvould place us on the foot...

COIRRES PO DEN?CE. THE WATERLOO TRAM WAY. Sin,-According to your Narracan corres pondent, great interest is being taken there in the Tnraway Company ; might I sug gest that the best of all interest in such a concern is a monied interest. With the exception of a few discontented, bilious in dividuals, I ain aware that we have the sympathy, not only of the selectors and residents immediately concerned, but of the entire district, for to many outside of the radius of the proposed routes, our sac cess means their success, for our scheme, to a large number, will be an experiinent, which, if successful, will be the precursor of a new era in South Gippsland; but, at the sameo time, while the sympathies are with us, we want something more; we want their money, and their monied influence. Your correspondent doubts our ability to tap McDonald's Track; well, thatexpresses but a poor opinion of those who have taken up shares already ; for if such be correct, they are throwing their money away. ...
