The Advertiser. PUBLISHED EVERY TUESDAY, THURSDAY AND SATURDAY MORNINO. Bairnsdale, Thursday, March 30, 1882. OUR SWAN REACH LETTER. Thursday, March 30. [Newspaper Article] — Bairnsdale Advertiser and Tambo and Omeo Chronicle — 1 April 1882

OUR SWAN RIEACH LEIERl. (FROM OUR OWN CORRIIESP0NDENT.) Thursday, March 30. So far as the Tamho is concerned hoppick. ing may fairly be considered at on eonu, 1essrs. Whitiug, Calvert and Schmnelern having finished gathering their crops, and I expect by the time these line' are printed and laid before the readers of the eldrertiser that picking will be pretty well completed at Mr. MlKnight's. At'the present moment Mr. George Whelan haslion some persons engaged in picking yearlings, but that will only last a little while. The profitable prices obtained foi hops this senson is likely to indued growers to plant a larder area, and the number of. growers will likewise be be more nnumerous. Freights on other prod'hce being so high is a great induncemlnt to go in for lIops, c tpo which thle freight is low in proportion to the value of the product. That the luds on the Tsamho are adapted for growing almost anly article that can be produced in Victoria has been abundantly proved. Maize has b...

LINDENOW ANNUAL RACES. THURSDAY, MARCH 30. [Newspaper Article] — Bairnsdale Advertiser and Tambo and Omeo Chronicle — 1 April 1882

LINDENOW ANNUAL RACES, TiUnsDAY, MAR?ls 30. The annual equino contests at Lindenow came olf last Thursday, and were inl every sense a success, for not only was the weather magnificently fine and in every way suited for outdoor sports. but the expectations of Pood fields and fine racing drew persols from all parts of this district, while there iwas at the sanme time a fair sprinkling of strangers, and a large contingentt of professional gamblers front Melbourne, who did a great business during the day. There was a totali sator on the ground, so those who feltinclined to risk a trifle on either of the competitors could do so, aot at the same time receive fair odds. The stewards, Messrs. Alexander Smith, E. Saunders, W. S. Ross, J. Whit bourne, G. Telfer, D. Hill, J. Cowell, T. Sheean, Jas. iMacFarland, T. Warren and II. Wood, deserve the greatest credit for the orderly and systematic manner in which all the aranngentents were carried out, and Mr. Frank H]olloway, the energetic secreta...
