FEMALE DUELLISTS. [Newspaper Article] — The Clipper — 12 August 1893

A strange eight as yon may well suppose, these two girls presented to niy English eyes, stand ing in what I' take to be correct positions, with the foils in their . hands. Strange, yet artistically beautiful, for one of them is twoand twenty and the other three years her (junior, although she looks a couple of years older than her late adversary. Both had caused the buttons at the ends of their foils to be removed, and I felt sure from the determined manner in which they faced each other that there was to be mischief. ?'After thrusting, feinting, and parrying for some minutes, with what : appe...

THE TIPS. [Newspaper Article] — The Clipper — 12 August 1893

THE TIPS. The V.A.T.C. Grand National Hurdle and Steeple will be run at Caulfield to-day. 'The Owl' thinks the following will be the result -.—Hurdle— Tim Swiveller 1, Merrigal 2, The Pioneer or Myra 8. Steeple— Trojan 1, Busaco 2, Albert or Shylock 3. All will regret to hear that good sports man, Mr. E. G. Talbot, has sustained a severe loss in the death of his favorite mare Blink Bonny, winner of the Caulfield Cup and numerous other races. Blink Bonny, who was one of the very best mares foaled in the Australian colonies, was bred by Mr. John Field, and by St. Albans frqm Medea, by Peter Wilkins from Blink Bonny, Conrad, and tracing back to the imported Wbiegig. It is stated that the Yorkshire sports man, Sir Tatton Sykea.oon templates build ing a splendid church at Sledmere, at a cost of .£100,000, in ooinmemoration of the marriage of the Duke of York and ErincosB May. Mining Notes and Tips [Newspaper Article] — The Clipper — 12 August 1893

Mining Notes and Tips TBt Gnomk.1 The Junction has onoe more been the lucky mine, and is again on good ore yield ing over COOoz. of silver per ton. The shareholders acted wisely in refusing to extend the time ^or tributing the mine. The company will again draw a tidy cheque on the last parcel sold. The dis covery has been made not on the Oonah but on the Western boundary. The Western mine is looking splendid. The work of ereeting the concentrator is proceeding apace, but after all this great and expensive work is riot likely to put more ore through than the much cheaper and very effective plant on the Queen. Pahl Ores have been a favorite stock lately. I hear there is likely to be an offer for .his olaiin. : The British Zeehan Company is still bothered with its ineffective concentrating machinery, and is still a disappointment to its shareholders. The Silver Crown has not yet got the lode which it expected to reach by driving 15ft. The Tasmanian (English company) has been let on tri...

FLYING SHOTS. [Newspaper Article] — The Clipper — 12 August 1893

FLYING SHOTS. A very quiet game. Holebrook out of the running for premier ship. The Eailway say that they have a chance. Jack Donnellan nearly had a mark once. Jackson on the wing was too good for ' Eatty.' Vimpany was Bailway's shining light, his three goals were excellent. Alec Clark's defensive play was very fine. He took some plucky marks. The 'Medicine' man knocked clean out when his favorites were beaten. Eady's tall marking and long kicking was very (rood, and Billy Abbott was the most useful man on the ground. The Eailway (kipper came out of his shell and played a dashing game. Shea and Willing and the' Casey Bros, were a busy quartette. ' Tootsey ' Howe had a loan of Cherry. Try a little training Charles. Bock had Cook in trouble in the centre. Jack Sibley made his appearance after his little spell. The 'Old Bird' was giving out plenty of chaff on Saturday. Langworthy was all there in the ruck, and Dick Langford kicked two nioe goals. Lovett played a useful game for his sid...
