The evidence showed that on Sunday even ing, Mlay 24th, The Salvation Army Band was playing in Camberwell-road when the two young men started danc ing and were arrested. The sergeant knew of no previous offence, and so they were both ordered to pay Ios., and were discharged. Sergeant Heaney believed there was a " push " starting operations in the city, and it \was his intention to break it up, the bench asserting they- -would be very quick to.put lown larrikinism. The justices present were:-Messrs. Dench (chairman), Philpott, Duffus, Birch, and Rowe, J's.P.

George Swinburne would make not only for the better- ment of Hawthorn and districts, but Australia as a whole. On many oc- casions this gentleman has practically demonstrated his large-heartedness, and the youth of this most progres- sive and affluential of eastern suburbs has many debts of gratitude for the generosity of Mr. Swinburne.
