LAND DUMMYING. [Newspaper Article] — Temora Herald and Mining Journal — 29 August 1882

LAND DUMMYING. This question has been onoe more dragged to the front — this tirao by an anonymous write!, or a writer making use of an alias. This groat light in forms the public that he thoroughly searched tho Registrar's books to find evidence ok uumniyiug. iiitw u no wore not an idiot, real or pretended, lio would know that the Registrar's books furnished no tangible evidence of dummying. In cases where dum luiere hold, or did hold, thirty or more Allotments, each one of these holdings is registered in ths name of some per son who, to the ordinary enquirer, appears genuine and bona fide. The names used may be those of dead people, absentees, or people who never existed but it were a hopeless task to prove that a person owning tbe name inserted in toe book did not, at some previous period, reside at Temora, for tk few days at least. But if a person malting enquiries were to discover fifty dummies' names, there is so possible means of identifying even one of them with his principal...

Origlnil Oormp5a49ao» ?* oim»- sliuniWiU LSIfD DUMMYING. (TO TBB IDITOS OV TSB ICK0S4 BIBALD. ) 8ir, — In Saturday's issue of yonr contempoty, appears a letter on Land Dummying, written by a supposed ' Outsider, ' but in reality the compo sition of that sneaking reptile who. with a true Mephistophelian char acter. cloaks his lying editorial aoctu ations under the garb of a miner, Heaven save the miners from such an one. The character of '* Outia ' as a sycophant and back-door slider is so generally known that, had my name not been soiled by his dirty lips I should have passed his lying insinu ations with contempt as of late it has been my publio duty to cast so much obloquy on him. that the task was beooming ao sacseax. The Land Dummies' organ — owned by Samuel Hawkins, who dummied several towu allotments, some of which were wrested ! from him by Mr Warden Do Boos — will be remembered as the vile tra ducer of tbat gentleman in conse quence. the slandors being from the pen thar signe...

BARMEDMAN. [?] 28th August, 1882. The long-expected flood ? seems to have arrived at last, for we have had rain during the last 36 hours, and the excavations at tbe B TJ. G M.
