I'VE BEEN READING THE WORLD'S CRISIS. [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 14 March 1924

WE BEEN READING THE WORLD'S CRISIS. (By .Winston Churchill — Our copy from the Sydney Book Club, Angus & Robertson, Ltd.). yy INSTON CHURCHILL'S hook on '* the war is one of the best of its kind issued. Churchill for several years was one of the war directors and1 he is a brilliant writer. In this the second volume is concerned with tlie doings of mir. Ilis description of the account of Dogger Bank is intensely interesting. He tells us of the battle of Suvla Bay aud other battles at Gallipoli, and of how tlie withdrawal was- planned. You feel tha, ttin this book you are behind the scenes. Like iiis first, volume, tiiis second volume will be much quoted, and will be kept for reference. Much of what lie writes about, Churcliill knows first hand, and' that gives it special value. 'The long and varied annate of the British Army contain' he writes, 'no more heart-breaking episode than the battle of Suvla Bay. The greatness of the prize in view, the narrowness by which it was misse...

"NIGHTS OFF" "TONS OF MONEY." GRAND OPERA HOUSE. [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 14 March 1924

'MIGHTS OFF' 'TONS OF MONEY.' GRAND OPERA HOUSE, By LAWEEHCE ©*CtKT. THIS delightful comedy farce which is nightly filling to overflowing the Dig Grand Opera House at the foot of Castlereagh-street, can be summed up in a very few words. A riot of colour, and an orgy of really beautiful ballets, enhanced by a truly wonderful system of lighting and some exquisite scenery1, and a slightly distorted ver sion of that old and very true proverb, 'honesty Is (after all) the best policy.' That is tho pill in the Jam of beauty, and decked oat in some of the most lovely dresses that feminine Sydney has ever admired — not to say envied. Indeed in the frock which forms the subject of our illustration of the Woman of the Week, in this issue, the ladies who visit the Grand Opera House are probably seeing quite the most beautiful creation of the dress maker's art, displayed on the Sydney stage. It has, of course, the advantage 3f being worn by a very pretty and graceful girl, in Miss Dorothy Brunto...

Do you remember Mrs. Treehern, Miss Mills?' 'Oh, yes,' replied Miss Mills, a ra ther washed-out-looking lady, with a girlish manner. They Know All About It [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 14 March 1924

They Know All About It ^ £ ? DELIGHTFULLY significant is the fact that of the fifteen motions dealing with 'land reform' that will come before the A. L. P. Conference, only one comes from a country branch. Naturally, it is the city chaps who know all about it. If you want to learn the rights or wrongs of land settlement, go to the Sydney Domain any pleasant Sunday afternoon. If you want to know how to make a success on the land, hear and heed the city A. L. P. leaders! What can they know of the country that only the city know! Some of those city chaps will do anything for the country except get off its back. Some of the city members of the A. L. P. have a very simple plan for 'land reform,' and it is this: — Let's take the land from those who are using it to-day, and give it to our friends. The fact that their friends have never proved that they can run successfully even a poultry or strawberry farm ha* nothing to do with the issue. Really!
