MAYOR BOYD ENTERTAINS [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News, Nowra — 10 November 1937

MAYOR BOYD ENTERTAINS At the conclusion of the South. Shoalhaven Council ? meeting, - on. Thursday, the Mayor (Aid. Boyd) in vited the aldermen to partake of a little refreshment, that being the last meeting of the present Council. Mr. Boyd said he did not desire any speeches or toasts, but he hoped to see them all around the table again after the election. Over a glass of ale and biscuits, about an hour was spent in reminiscences. The fact that Aid. Bennett charged his glass with, lemonade only led Aid. Jack Watts to comment, and not the least interest ing of the , tales told of long ago was CJ^.'s redtal ot how lie 'swore ,*-fP . ' after a bout with 'honey' beer, about the genuineness of which he still *has some doubts.

PYREE CRICKETERS' DANCE [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News, Nowra — 10 November 1937

PYREE CRICKETERS' DANCE ? v ? One of the most enjoyable socials in a long list of successes was that organised by Mr. Artie Smith, in aid of the Pyree Crteket Club, and held in the Literary Institute on Tuesday night last. There was a very large attendance, but contrary to the usual experience, there were not many euchre players. The winners in the latter competition were Mr. 'Chappy' Moore and Mrs. Naveau. Mr. A. Tetley, whose accordeon becomes more and more popular with each appearance, provided excellent music, being assist ed by Mr. M. Lyons (saxophone) The feature of the evening was a schottische competition, for which there was a big entry. The judge (Mr. w. Dalton) finally awarded the prize to Mr. and Mrs. Reg Goodsell, a decision that met with universal ap proval. The couple gave a graceful exhibition of the old-time favorite. The competition for the table runner (made and presented by Mr. Frank Willmott) was won by Mr. J. D. Tur ner; that for the open order by Miss Norma Ha...

BOWLING NOTES [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News, Nowra — 10 November 1937

BOWLING NOTES ; sr-. . ... — — rv ? . i :.?»-,- , {By 'Wrong Bias'). , , *Ehe ancient game of bowls still continues to be very popular in this |-arJt of the South Coast. For some weeks now the week-end weather has been dull, rainy, and generally dis apoointmg, but there is always a good roll-up of players on the Nowra green. It Is very pleasing to see new players learning the points of the game, and also to see the faces of fresh ad herents trying out the game. We have one clergyman in the club who is an entnusiast, ana iaxeiy nave : noticed another wearer of the 'cloth' j in the person of the Rev. Newton roll ing down the biassed sphere on the Nowra green, and making quite a good jof of it. Last week-end the weather decided to give us a break, and Saturday afternoon was hot and sunny, al though rain came on just at the close of play. The main interest on the Nowra green on Saturday afternoon was in the B. Pennant games. This season both Nowra and Berry -have four rinks in this comp...
