Senior Class Pro _.. gresses W ith Year Book and Other Pla ns Class History and Poem Corn- [Newspaper Article] — Lincolnian — 3 April 1935

Senior Class Progresses With Year Book and Other Plans Class History and Poem Com- pleted Two more months and then graduation . But in this brief space, seniors are trying to compensate for many idle thoughts _and wasted minutes . In the first place, a petition has been sent to the faculty for an earlier schedule for final examinations . The reason for this is that seniors feel that if examinations are allowed to lag they will tend to hamper final preparations for graduation . The editorial staff of the yearbook is still busy . This will be the first time that a year-book has been released since 1923. The end of March has been set as a deadline for all final payments and it is hoped that by that time all seniors will have paid in full the amount they were assessed . If everything work as planned , the staff feels that by the middle of Apri l the hook will be cornpleted and ready for publication.

Committees on the graduation "Prom" class night program. Caps and gowns, and finance are still busy. The Class Valedictiorian and Salutatorian have not yet been selected. This delay can be accounted for by the fact that contention has arisen whether scholarship alone should be the basis for selection or whether such things as scholarship plus speak= ing ability as well as other extra curricula activities should be taken into consideration. It is hoped that a decision in the matter will soon be reached. so that the Valedictorian can be announced.

CHR ISTI ANITY _AI D THE NEGRO [Newspaper Article] — Lincolnian — 3 April 1935

CHRISTIANITY AND THE NEGRO Four years ago two young graduates of Yale made a tour of the world, speaking and debating on various questions of Religion. One of their outstanding experiences took place in India at Lucknow Christian College, where they upheld the negative side in a debate on the subject, "Resolved that Religon is a curse to Humanity." The reason for this seeming insult to Christianity and to the Americans should be very obvious to us, as Negroes. It is the very thing which is causing us to ask ourselves, "Is Christianity playing the part more or less of an opiate on us, the darker and oppressed races?" These foreigners had our American race problems in mind when they laughed...
