THE ILLINOIS' FREE TRADER From the New York Express. The RrllUtt C'anndn Corn Imvt Hill. The passage of the Canada Corn Law Bill by the Btitish Parliament, naturally attracts a good deal of aitcniion on this side of the water, and the question arises how much we are to he benefited by it. The provisions, in few word?, are, viz : Wheat from Canada, imported into Great Britain, pay a duty of nno shillings quar ter or 3 cents a bushel ; no distinction as to whether it be the production of Canada or of the United Slates, is made. On Wheat imported into Canada, a duty of 3 shilling a quarter or 9 cents a bushel, is levied. So that American wheat going to Groat Britain, through Canada, pays a duty of 12 cents per bushel. This is a lixed rule. It has hitherto been the poli cy of Great Britain to admit no more foreign wheat than was indispensably necessary to save the nation from starva tion ; and the sliding scale of duties, fall ing as scarcity raises the price at home, is admirably adapt...

THE ILLINOIS FREE TRADER. From ttie Chicago Democrat. Dr. MUKPII V'S WITH DIC1 AVAL. The democracy of this Congressional District, and we might say of the whole Union, will hail with extreme gratification the circular of the lion. RtciiiBD Mi'nrnr, which we publish today. It aeals the fute of the pending canvass in this Dis trict, and who knows but of the next President, and all the great measures of national policy now agitating the country ? Hefore this circular there was but little doubt of Ws defeat in the minds ot many ; at any rate, the battle would have been a hard tought one, and the worst of feelings creat tcd. It might have caused the defeat of the county ticKet in several instances, anu arouseu dissensions which it would have taken years to reconcile. But all this is now ohviuted, and the Democracy will appear at the polls ono week from Monday next, with but one candidate, firm, de termined, and united. And it cannot now be beat. The conciliatory and truly patriotic lan g...

E Night Scene In a Poor TIan's Home. BT MiBr III1WITT. It was in the middle of winter, on the night of the twenty-third of January, when tho weather was miserably cold : it neither decidedly froze, nor did it thaw: but between the two it was cold and damp, and penetrated to the yery bone, even of those who sat in carpeted rooms before large fires, and were warmly clad. It was on this evening that the seven lit tle children of David Baird, tho weaver, stood huddled together in their small room, beside a small fire which was burn ing comfortlessly. The baby lay in a wooden cradle on the comer of the hearth. The fire, to he sure, gave some warmth, because it had boiled an iron pot full of potatoes, but it gave very little cheeriness to the room. Tho mother had portioned out the evening meal a...

THE ILLINOIS FREE TRADER. Irish Itepenl. This question is becoming deeply in teresting. As we understand it seeks nut to dismember the llriush Empiie, but simply to give Ireland her own parlia ment, as was the case previous to the year 1800. She disclaims not her loyal ty and fealty to the Uritish sovereign, but she wishes the law-making power trans ferred front London to Djblin, from foreigners to her own sons. It is not re bellion, but a peaceable remedy provided by the llritish constitution, which the Irish are snuggling vo obtain by the votes of the British parliament itself. Some of the whig papers which con demn the repeal movement in this coun try, remark that England would have had just as much right to incite the nullifiers of South Carolina in 1833, as the Ameri cans have to encourage the Irish Iiepcal ers. The case is different ; South Caro lina took the ground that she had a right to secede and become a seperate and in dependent nation, without the consent of congress or...
