Owing to the fact that alum baking powden are produced at a cost of less than four cents a pound, while in ap pearance they arc hardly distinguish able irom a pore cream of tartar powder costing from eight to ten times as much to manufacture, there have been many of them put upon the market, and great efforts made to substitute them for tb more wholesome cream of tartar com pounds.
