:::OCT. 14. FRIDAY, :::::::::::::::::::: A. McBEGOR, Editor. THE ELECTION, In Stark county, on Tuesday last passed off without any undue excitement and resulted in a Republican triumph, their entire ticket being elected by some five hundred majority. We never whine nor blubber over spilled milk and only say they worked for their victory, one and all. and by this means got out a fair vote while the Democrats were not so active and did not turn out. This is theprinci pal reason of our defeat. 1 here was no organization and comparatively few who labored to secure a full Democratic vote This seems to be the case elsewhere in the State. .We can account for Democratic losses in old and staunch Democratic, counties in no other way. The fault then being with ourselves tho remedy is with ourselves and every Democrat should con aider a due share of responsibility resting upon himself and act accordingly. SUMMARY OF NEWS. The English cable is again injured near Newfoundland. A repair steamer w...

FRIDAY, : :::OCT. 21. A. McGREGOB. Editor. "A COLORED MAN AND BROTHER." Old , Jacob . Gaskin, aged S2 rears, ap peared in Lis best broad cloth at the l'lain township poll oh election day and cast his first vote. Old Jacob was proud, and ' aeemed to appreciate that he was now a "man and brother." . The election judges in old Democratic Plain obeyed the XVth amendment, and treated Jacob as the "man and brother, although of course he voted the mongrel ticket. It was carious, somewhat, to old and young, to see there as black a negro as Gaskin. There has been no previous miscegenation in his case not a particle. But Jacob is an exception to his color in these parts, in industry and true worth. He has lived in old Flam among the white men that rule there for many, many years, and has become wealthy, owning three farms now. His accumulation has been got by industry and economy. He is about the only example of his race in Stark county probably the only success ful example. Gaskin, for about...

:.OCT. 27 A. XcGHEGOR, Editor. THURSDAY, :::::::::: RESIGNATION OF SECRETARY COX. Secretary J.- D. Cox, of the interior de partment, liiut resigned his office and hit) resignation has been accepted. .Sjveral reasons are assigned for this. One is that he was removed through the undermining process of Pennsylvania politicians who complain that Cox will not allo party hacks to levy a tax for parti can purposes upon the clerks in his office, and who also complain that Pennsylvania is not represented in the Cabinet. Another explanation is t hi.- : The title to the McGarralian quicksilver mining claim, said to be eleven millions, was pro nounced a sham by the stubborn Secreta ry anil eleven millions is powerful in re moving even such obstacles to success as Cabinet ministers. It is also well known that he lins clean ed his department of the corrupt rascals known as the Indian rinj;. and they areof course yelping at his heels.
