"Washington, May 8. Douglass acts during Pleasanton's absence. Secretary of War Belknap's child is dead. The child's mother died recently. Cercoran is worse. His doctors are con stantly in attendance. The treaty was signed to-day by the High Commission at the Department of Btate.
