Sight THE JEWISH MONITOR Friday, Decomber 19, 1919. 2jV I Ct 'EDITORIAL 1 i" THE SEASON OF THE YEAR. All is bustle and turmoil. The streets and shops are crowded, and the spirit of gayety, festivi ty and kindliness is abroad. The annual Christmas season is upon us, and here in the South, at least, a new air .pervades. The Christmas spirit is" one of the finest contributions of Christian, ity and only those who want to be blind can deny its worth. However, we do not forget, if we know anything about Jewish life, that our beautiful festival of Chanukah also comes at this season of the year, and that it is historically also a feast of a gift giving character. As a matter of fact, Chanukah and Christmas both probably had their origin in an earlier winter festival, which was no doubt common to all . the peoples of ancient time. So far as Christianity is concern ed, the Santa Claus idea is a def . inite proof. Chanukah has a stronger historical basis. The cleansing of the defiled altar by...

In making this statement, it is not intended to indicate that the waive of prosperity has passed, or even reached its flood. As a matter of fact, the beginning of the present month saw more de velopment activities underway than ever before. Results secur ed throughout the entire North Central Texas fields in the month of November are probably more satisfactory than those of any preceeding month. On December first there were 1,014 rigs and 2,542 drilling wells in the field. This was an increase of 81 rigs and 284 drilling wefls in one month. During the month of No vember the...
