Soldiers of the Second DivisionI can see how in a few weeks you will be greeted at your homes with enthusiasm and grat- itude. The cities through which you pass will pour out their population to behold the heroes of the last great battle of the war, and ol many battles before it. In those ex- ulting moments—in years to come, indeed, as you receive tokens of favor from your countrymen—how sweet it will be for you to reflect that everywhere, and at all times, your conduct has been upright and manly. C. O. ANDREWS, Brevet-Major General. The Jackson Railroad, we are happy to inform our readers, will probably be soon ready to contribute to the wants of com- merce and travel as of yore. We are assured that there will be uo difficulty in obtaining from the public spirited people of the city the sum necessary to put it in order, and with this belief the company will ask of...

k > i •> * •« >* Dr. Mwauna* He ether ■ Church. To the Editor of the N. O. Timet : I was present Sunday morning at tbe Carondelet street Church, and had the pleaeure of hearing the first of a aeries of three sermons on the condition of the Southern churches, by the Rev. Dr. New* man. Tbe sermon was on tbe Mission of the Southern Church. Just at this time this is a subjeot of gen- era) interest and of great practical impor- tance. It was handled by the Dootor in his very best style. The discourse was practioal, well timed and judioious, oaloulated to be of sewice to the country North and South.. And I know tbat many others who hesrd it be- lieve that it ou&nt to be published through* out the land. It is the right thing at the right thne, and it is to be hoped that if the Dootor has or oan prepare a copy for publication it will be done. The Grave of Andrew Johnson's Father.—Rev. Horace James, writing from Newbern to the Congregationalist, gives the following interesting I...

v- -i r 1 HI ► "4 /U U V- * r THI CITY. Rer. Mr. Richardson, of the Epis- copal Churob, will preach in the Churob at Cbapmanville, to-morrow morning, at 11 o'clock. —The Provost Marshal's office is daily thronged by citizens and soldier*, who come up willingly and swallow the "iron clad," as it is called. Many amusing scones can be witnessed, and all take the matter coolly and philosophically. The Provost Marshal and his assistants are kept busy at their work, and treat all with courtesy. The 'iron clad" it not near as hard to take as some ofjtho sai ie name during the late war, and our boys nover feared to try them. All soldiers who desire to return to their homes in other States are cheerfully furnished with transportation by the Post Quarter- master, and many are departing daily. We wish them success and prosperity wherever their destiny may be cast. Somo mischief-makers have circula- ted slanderous reports through the country towns concerning the conduct of the fair daughters of...
