GRILLING DAYS. SWELTERING IN SHEPPARTON. [Newspaper Article] — Shepparton Advertiser — 23 February 1914

GRILLING DAYS. SWELTERING IN SHEPPARTON. People of Shepparton have not been looking happy these several past days. Their complaint is the one common all over Victoria-Excessive Heat. One of our most jovial townsmen, who is usually buttonholing folk with the latest "good story," gave up being merry, a week ago. when he found that the expected "change" had not come at all. You could not have 'Wade him smile if you had used a glove-stretcher. The only "change" he knows of-according to his own statement-had taken place over the hotel bar: and as he tells you this he fumbles in his trouser-pocket to see how much of the "change" has been left. A resident who was known to have a head of hair that would have shamed a haystack, was unrecognisable to his friends a few days ago. For the sake of "keeping cool" he went to a tonsorial artist in Wyndham-street, and ten minutes later went forth like ano ther Sampson-shorn of his locks. Some of his more intimate acqgaiotances are trying to laugh at ...

THE RECENT EPIDEMICS OF SMALLPOX AND DIPHTHERIA Would certainly not have attained such proportions if the hygienic fact were more generally known that the disinfection of the mouth by a reliable and harmless antiseptic is a great pro tecting factor agaicsts all ailments where the infection is through the throat or respiratory tract. By putting 3 drops of SANDER'S EUCALPT EXTRACT, on a piece of loaf-sugar and allowing it to dissolve in the mouth that cavity is thoroughly dis infected. The volatile nature of SANDER'S EXTRACT makes it penetrate every crevice. SANDER'S EXTRACT is not ni~aseous nor de pressing like the common occalyptuis and possesses great antiseptic power. By using SANDER'S EXTRACT, you avoid the uncertain composition of the lozenge :you have the benefit of the strongest antiseptic that can be used with safety,;and the result is protection from all infection. The special feature of the above corn. pony, which is to appear in the Star Theatre on Tuesday (tomorrow) and Wednesday nights, is refinewent, which, coupled; with nine versatile s artists and artistes, is the keynote of success. The central figure is, -.of course, Miss ZIlah Harrison, who is the possessor of a soprano voice that has previously charmed a Shepparton audience, Miss Harrison's former appeerance here was with the Kate Rooney Comedy Com pany, on which occasion her charming manner, delightfully free from affects lion, won her numerous admirers. Un like many or most vocalists of rho top rank, Miss Harrison makes a point of selecting songs to suit a varied audience. The company supporting her is well up to the required standard and an excel lent programme should be presented. The box plan is at Mrs Donaldson'e, Wyndham-street.

THE NEW DANCE CRAKE [Newspaper Article] — Shepparton Advertiser — 23 February 1914

NT _.7i__ý that were predicted. Dancing goes on briskly, but the onlookers are coneiderably greater in number; and what is said to be the much tabooed "Tango" is attempted by a few couples who are believed to be professionals." At the oren air theatre of "The Dandies." also u1 St Kilda, Miss Vere and Mr 1auipier go through a very spirited and somewhat fantastic dance, which is declared to be another form of the "'Tango"; but it is evident that so far the tnetropoli ta public has not been treated to a spectacle of the dance realistic an banned by King George and uteen Mary, the Czer of Russia, and other crowneJ beads of Europe. But that saltatorial exhi. bitions and vaudevillo perform ances are growing in popularity in M lbourne, and finding increasing favor with country audiences, is a fact undeniable, and it naturally provokes the question-Is this an indication of degeneracy ? It has been dogmatically asserted that the character of a nation is more clearly r( ilcted by its songs th...
