MISCELLANY, ORIGINAL AND SELECT. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette — 4 March 1826

MISCELLANY. ORIGINAL AND SELECT The first employment of steam in navalval     warfare, was unquestionably that of the Diana steam Vessel at Rangoon against a flet of Burmese war boats. The power of the steam enabled the Diana to manouvre so rapidly among them, that notwithstanding the strength and dexte rity of their rowers, they could not escape ;   and with irresistable force she upset, demolished, sunk, disabled, and took no fewer than thirty-two. To give some notion of the impetuosity with which the Diana must have rushed among the enemy, it is only to state that the Bur mese war boats, though constructed in the shape of a canoe, have the length of a ship of the line. They are not less than 80 feet long by 7 broad-have 52 oars and row 6 knots an hour, and carry 150 fighting men each. Their elegance is   equal to their swiftness-they are beauti fully decorated-are gilt without, and painted within. A fleet of ,38 of these boats m...
