< INVENTION FOR WELDING CAST IRON. In a motor garage im Lonsdale-st., Tuesday, before an audience o£ per sons interested in various branches of engineering, a practical demonstration, was given by its inventor of the possi bilities of a new preparation called "Lava Flux." In "Lava Flux," Mr. Archibald Figgins, of Swan-street, Rich mond, and formerly of Corowa, claims to have discovered what engineers jlic world over have been seeking for half a century, namely> a method of brazing cast iron, which had been broken, ana in some cases even sawn through, were united in a few minutes, so that when struck with a hammer, or bent in a vice, they broke anywhere but at the joint. The test was applied several times, always with, the, same satis factory result. One exceptionally good piece of work was the brazing together of a small cast iron cog wheel, which had been broken into ten pieces. It is claimed that Lava Flux mil braze, not: merely one, but every variety of cast iron. A...

FINANCE FOR THE MONTH. [Newspaper Article] — The Urana Independent and Clear Hills Standard — 2 May 1913

FINANCE FOR THE MONTH, In Messrs. Joseph Palmer and Sons' monthly share list for April it is s^ted that ono of the reasons that makes .money dear in Australia is the necessity for all industrial concerns to store large quantities of supplies in close proximity to the works, lest strike conditions; should rule in localities from whence stocks are drawn, or interrupted transit oanae a cess a'on of delivery. Thu throughout this great continent large quantities of coal, coke, and doubtless many other raw products, are stacked in excess of usual requirements. All these items represent a vast amount of capital in the aggregate, and the usual interest and depreciation of such stockg are a charge of no small degree oil railways, manufactories, mining and smelting companies. No doubt in times of strife, when these reserves are con sumed, capital is liquidated, and there is some immediate set-off in the coun try's finances; but if there were no necessity for business propositions to require t...

The Ardlethan Field. [Newspaper Article] — The Urana Independent and Clear Hills Standard — 2 May 1913

The Ardlethan Field. Speculators ou Sydney Exchange seem to be madly jumping over each other in their anxiety to get Ard letlian shares, and values have gone up to extraordinary rates. A resident of the Lockliart dis trict, who is well versed in mining, has recently paid a visit to the field and although he thinks well of the future possibilities, he can see no reason for such boom prices. The position of the field is as follows :—The country has been, taken up for miles, but the principal tin-bearing formation, as so far proved, seems to be a few hundred yards wide. The principal leases on the Ardlethan end are the White Crystal, Carpathia and Wild Cherry, but north of the Wild Cherry there are numerous small leases which will no doubt be eventually amalga mated. Without going into a de scription of the field from the White Crystal to Bygoo, it will be sufficient for the purpose of analysing the state of the market to give an idea of doings ou the three main leases on which most of...
